My mother Betty Legg passed away in February 2018. Mum and Mary became friends as young schoolgirls in London. Although mum moved to Australia with her family in 1970, and only returned to England a few times, she and Mary remained close friends for a period of over 70 years. Mum would always tell me when she had received a letter from Mary and share the news with me. My mother always looked forward to Mary's letters and greatly valued her friendship. Shortly before her death she described Mary to me as one of her closest friends.
